I don't know what Mel Brooks is doing these days, but I wish he'd start making parodies again. I'm sick of the ones they make today where the entire movie is 90 minutes of people getting injured and quoting movies that came out less than a year ago. This is one of his best movies, and it always stuck with me because I've been watching it since I was a kid. How can you not love a movie that jokes about its own merchandising and has a flying RV, a giant robot maid, and a dog-man (mog) named Barf?
The screencap of Dark Helmet that I used as a reference was actually taken from the scene where they watch Spaceballs: The Movie on VHS because I wanted to draw him drinking through his mask (the accompanying gurgling sound is awesome). I made the radar in the background in Photoshop and put in a bit of a scanline effect so that it would look like a monitor.
